- Cloud of Dust – During the last week we applied lime on our fairways. Our soil tests indicated a low ph or (acid soil). To adjust for this condition we apply a palletized high calcium limestone to raise the soil ph. You may have noticed the large trucks wondering around our course with a substantial dust cloud trailing them. In general, soil acidity at or near neutrality ensures maximum availability of all essential nutrients in the soil.
- Fairway Bunker on Hole Five – The Grounds Committee, at management’s request, discussed the continued maintenance problems of this bunker. It is by far the most maintenance intensive bunker (washes out badly) on the course. Under consideration was trading sand for grass. This was approved by the committee and sand was removed last week. When sod is available this work will be completed. It may be considered unfortunate by many that – this will not make the bunker play any easier. Thick grass is tough to hit out of any where on the course.
- This week – We will be continuing and hopefully finish preparing our tee projects on 10, 14 and 18 for sod work.
