News from the Course – March 9, 2010

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Tye Heidbreder – Superintendent

  • The Native Area east of the Creek (Ward Branch) – A prescribed burn has been completed in this area. Fire has shown to be an important tool for maintaining vigor in native wild flowers. Fire can also control many undesirable woody plants and other weeds. This should provide a significant boost to the wild flowers planted three years ago. During the last two years we have been directed to mow this area to control undesirable growth. Unfortunately the mowing process has eliminated wild flowers that had blossomed. With this burn it is hoped that we will not have mow and the wildflowers will blossom all summer. The club is responsible for maintaining this area under the supervision of the Missouri Department of Conservation. They will be consulted as to future burns.
  • Fairways and Tees – We are in the process of applying granulized crabgrass/weed pre-emergent chemicals on these areas. This is a “pre-emergence” control that must be applied and then activated by rain or irrigation prior to the emergence of weeds. This maintenance is best done between March 15th and April 15th.
  • Tee Projects – As of tomorrow, dirt-work on the forward tees on ten and fourteen should be completed with the tees ready for sod. Typically sod is first available towards the end of March or early April. The grow-in period after sod work is very quick and members will soon be able to enjoy these course improvements. Dirt work should begin on the new red tee on hole eighteen within the next couple of days.
  • Employees – The next time you are on the course and see one of our grounds crew, stop and say thanks. During this winter in the many cold periods we experienced, they have still been outside completing the many winter maintenance tasks. FACT: We have a combined 129 years of service vested in our top five senior employees.

What is The Chase

 For the

 2010 Mulligan Cup?

Attention All Twin Oaks Country Club golfers – the Chase for the 2010 Mulligan Cup will begin May 29th with the Memorial Day Tournament!  This is the 3rd Season of this exciting “PGA Tour style” season-long competition.  Just as the PGA Professionals earn money/points in the events they play, you will also earn money for a selected 6 golf tournaments.  No question this is “funny money” however there are rewards for finishing in the top 5 at the end of the “Chase.”

This season the Mulligan Cup has been altered to put more emphasis on important club events that we have selected throughout the season.  For those Top 5 money winners they will be recognized at the President’s Ball on October 15th.

To participate in “THE Chase for the Mulligan Cup” all you have to do is play in any or all of the following club events.  Major tournaments will be weighted with a larger purse which in turn could boost your chance to finish in the top five.  The

“Leading Money Winners” list will be tallied, and posted in the Pro Shop following each event.

CHASE FOR THE MULLIGAN CUP

“To rake in the dough” all you have to do is place in the following events:

  • Men’s Member/Member Match Play Championship- New Event
    • Limited to 32 teams
  • Top 16 of Stroke Play Championship
  • Couples Event (June) Top 4 all Flights
  • All participants in the 3 Member-Only Club Tournaments
    • Memorial Day- Ladies event weighted heavier due to Men’s Stroke Play event being counted!
    •  July 4th
    • Labor Day

All flight winners will receive an equal amount.  In team events all members of the first-place team will earn first-place money.  Likewise all second thru fourth or fifth players or teams will earn equal pay-outs.

Top 5 Finish is what you want – Top Five is where the prizes are!!!  Visit your Pro Shop, get the right equipment, practice hard and play often, and most important – enjoy golf with your fellow members and “Chase the Mulligan Cup.”
